Tell Me What You Feed Your Mind & I Will Tell You Who You Are

As humans, we consume everything around us in some way or another.

Obviously, we consume things in the physical sense; the food we eat, the liquids we drink and the air we breathe. All these things that we place in our body will cause a response and have a positive or negative effect on our wellbeing.

For instance, today I ate a family size packet of chocolate and as expected, my body reacted to this consumption with a stomach ache and decreased energy levels, amongst other sugar overload responses that are well out of my physiology knowledge.

Anyone could have predicted this physical response to occur. We all know that to remain energetic and healthy, we must eat a balanced and nutritious diet.

Back in 1825, Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savatin wrote “Dis-moi ce que tu manges, je te dirai ce que tu es”, translating to “Tell me what you eat and I will tell you what you are’’. This understanding of the relationship between humans and food is transferable to our consumption of everything else around us.

Tell me what you feed your mind and I will tell you who you are.

Similar to physical consumption, we are also consuming all other things that we are in contact with; books, podcasts, television, social media, music, advertisements, videos, this article you’re currently reading, and even the words and actions of others around you.

These things create changes within our minds, shaping us and pushing our focus in certain directions. They will influence everything that we think, feel, do and say.

You are a product of what you read. You are a product of what you listen to. You are a product of what you watch. You are a product of who you spend your time with.

I think you get the point. So, are the things you are consuming supporting or hindering your desired mindset?

The same way my chocolate binge had a negative effect on my health, if you ‘over-consume’ a person’s low vibe energy, your mind will also shift towards this sort of being.

Let’s say that you have a friend who has tendencies to complain, create drama and manipulate others. Their glass is always half empty. By simply spending time around this person, even if your values don’t align with their words and actions, your mind will automatically pick up on this frame of mind and you will likely find yourself thinking and even acting similarly.

Likewise, if you are constantly checking on the global news and seeing negative and sometimes unfactual reports, your mind is going to shift into a sort of doomsday mode. You will find yourself viewing the world around you in a darkened light.

But just like how we can choose to not stuff our faces with junk food and instead intentionally consume foods that will provide our bodies with proper nutrition, we are also able to control the things that our minds consume to create our desired mindset.

We can literally become anything or anyone we want by simply taking control of the things our minds consume!

If you have a goal to increase your income and run your own business, then choose to listen to podcasts and read books on entrepreneurship, finances and productivity. Absorb as much of this content as you can. By simply exposing yourself to these topics, you will not only learn about these matters but you will also retune your mind to be more hustle focused and success driven.

If you want to rediscover self-love, be mindful of who you follow on social media. Actively unfollow accounts that make you feel self-concious and less confident. Instead, follow accounts that inspire creativity and encourage you to embrace your perfect ‘imperfections’.

If you want to get fit and strong, join a gym and spend time around the like-minded people there. Give yourself the opportunity to learn from them and embrace that ‘grind don’t stop’ attitude.

If you want be happier and more energetic, listen to music that spreads positivity, uplifts you and makes you feel like a boss ass bitch.

Are you catching the gist? Basically, we are a direct product of the things that we consume. So why not consume the things that will help us reach our full potential and cut out the things that constrain our highest selves?

Every moment of every day, we have a choice to make. We can either involuntarily adopt unwanted habits and mindsets, or we can surround ourselves with things, content and people that uplift us and help us create our dream lives. What will you choose?

Protect your mind and energy by consuming wisely.
